Medical Acupuncture

At Personal Best we offer medical acupuncture sessions.  Medical acupuncture is derived from Chinese medicine. The goal of Medical Acupuncture is to stimulate sensory nerves under the skin and around the muscles.  The result is the body produces endorphins and other natural substances, which can relieve pain.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provides guidelines on the use of treatments and care of patients/ clients.

NICE recommends considering acupuncture as a treatment option for:

Acupuncture is also often used to treat other musculoskeletal conditions (of the bones and muscles) and pain conditions, including:

  • chronic pain, such as neck pain
  • joint pain
  • dental pain
  • postoperative pain

Results of medical acupuncture can vary between individuals and greater pain relief is general seen after a course of treatments, rather than an individual treatment.

At Personal Best we often use acupuncture in combination with other treatment styles such as sports massage and cupping.  These treatments impact rehabilitation in different ways. It’s important to note that everyone is different and some people will respond to certain styles of treatment more effectively than others.  To book in for medical acupuncture or speak to a therapist about pain/ injury and developing a rehabilitation plan, contact us below.
